A Little about Me

I’ve spent the past 20+ years in higher education administration at the University of Michigan, working with scholars at all levels and across disciplines, and especially with those engaged in diversity and social justice endeavors.

In addition to coaching, my expertise includes faculty professional development, conflict resolution, and program management.

I hold a Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology from the University of California at Berkeley and hold an ACC certification from the International Coaching Federation (ICF). I was trained as an executive coach by the Academy of Creative Coaching, as well as Michigan Medicine (University of Michigan). I have also been trained in Motivational Interviewing (MI), Social Justice Mediation, Positive Intelligence (PQ), PRINT Unconscious Motivators, and by the Co-Active Training Institute (CTI).

A Little about Darea

Darea (“DARE-ee-ah”) was chosen for two reasons:

One, because it’s the name one of my sons came up with when he was younger to represent the different fantasy sports teams he created and played with. Darea’s teams would face off against different NFL, NBA, MLB teams in imaginary games. So it reminds me of some of the most important things to me: family and invention.

Two, because it sounds like “Dare Ya” which in some ways is what I think coaching is all about…daring ourselves to do different and be different…to bring about change to create the lives we want.

“Life is not about finding yourself,
it’s about creating yourself”
